Applebee the popular restaurant chain is a part of the Australian Government, but the Australian market is a whole lot bigger than the American, according to Applebee, which is currently a part owner of the company.
That’s because Applebee owns about 70 per cent of the entire Australian market.
“It is the largest retail group in Australia and we have been involved in the Australian marketplace for a very long time,” Applebee said in a statement.
“The Australian market has been our focus for many years and has continued to grow, driven by the globalisation of the economy and consumer preferences.”
As the company has expanded into the Australian business, so has its footprint.
In the US, Applebee has grown to more than 3,500 restaurants across the country, with more than half of those locations located in the US.
According to the company, its sales in Australia have increased by more than 30 per cent over the last two years, with growth expected to continue.
“Applebee’s Australian business is the most valued in Australia, according the company’s 2016 annual report, and its brand continues to grow in Australia,” the company said.
Applebee also operates two Australian stores, one in Melbourne and one in Perth.
Applebee operates about 600 cafes across Australia, and operates them with the assistance of restaurants.
The Australian Government’s new business environment in 2016 The Australian Government is currently examining whether Applebee should be allowed to operate a new restaurant in Australia.
While the Government has indicated that it will not require Applebee to abide by a new food safety and hygiene standards, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has told the Australian Business Traveller to be mindful of its duties as a franchiser.
If Applebee does decide to take part in the new venture, it would need to adhere to the same standards that are required of other businesses in Australia’s fast food market, such as ensuring that customers are properly washed, sanitised and covered for the duration of their stay in Australia or in countries where they are served food.
