WASHINGTON — Vancouver Canucks general manager Jim Benning traded defenseman Ben Hultberg to Dallas for forward Brett Ritchie, the team announced Wednesday.
Ritchie was acquired from Dallas in a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets earlier this week, a move that saw the Canucks move up to fifth in the Central Division standings.
Ritchie is a 21-year-old who has spent most of the last three seasons with the Dallas Stars, where he has two goals and 11 assists in 36 games.
The Canucks acquired Ritchie from Columbus last summer in exchange for defenseman Jordan Leopold and a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
The Canucks drafted Ritchie with the fifth overall pick in June’s NHL Draft, and he has played just one game for Vancouver.
The Dallas Stars are one of just four teams in the NHL with more than 50 points, and they’ve outscored the Canucks by a combined 1-1.
