The MTV network is set to introduce its first digital content, in a partnership with Netflix.
The digital service will launch on May 16.
The new digital content will be “exclusive to MTV, and we’ll bring it to all of our users as soon as we can,” MTV said in a statement.
The move comes as the MTV channel faces pressure to make a digital subscription service attractive to young viewers.
Last month, MTV said it had no plans to introduce digital content in the next few years.
“MTV is committed to the growth of our digital content business,” the company said in the statement.
“As we look to grow the channel, we believe we can create compelling new programming for our users.”
The move is the latest in a series of moves by MTV to attract millennials.
Last year, MTV also announced it would bring a digital version of its popular MTV Challenge game show to YouTube in the coming months.
MTV’s chief content officer, Nick Stellman, said at the time that the show was a good fit for the MTV digital subscription platform.
“I don’t think we have any other channel where you can watch it live and watch it on a regular basis and not feel like you’re missing out on the content,” he said.
MTV has also been working to create a digital content offering for its MTV Movie Channel, a series that airs live from New York City’s Times Square.
MTV Movie Club has been available in its original, high-definition format for about a year now.
The MTV Movie channel was one of the first to introduce the “Movie Mode” to its digital video-on-demand service.
That feature, which is now available on a variety of services, allows viewers to view films on the go with the option to watch them as clips or on-demand.
MTV said that it had launched a new Movie Mode for the new MTV Movie Show on May 12.
“We’re excited to bring the best in pop culture to viewers across the world,” Stellmen said.
