Biden vows “to do more than keep our promises to our people.”
Biden also took aim at President Donald Trump, saying, “We have a president who is not going to change.”
He said Trump “has to do more to stop his agenda, not less.
And so, that is what we will do.”
Biden also addressed Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, saying it “undermines our leadership to be a global leader in fighting climate change.”
Biden was joined by several senators at a news conference Thursday to announce a bill that would protect American workers and the environment from “unintended consequences” of President Donald J. Trump’s policies.
The bill would provide a pathway for the Trump administration to reverse many of the executive orders and policies it has put in place, Biden said.
Biden’s bill also calls for a moratorium on new coal mining leases.
The president has proposed an all-of-the-above strategy that could lead to the closure of up to 1,600 coal mines and an end to nearly $2 billion in environmental regulations that he has imposed on the coal industry.
Biden said the president “must stop” the actions of his administration that would threaten the health and safety of American workers.
“We will not allow his actions to undermine our nation’s economic competitiveness and put American workers, our families and our communities at risk,” Biden said at the news conference.
The senator added, “The American people are tired of this.
And they are sick and tired of being lied to.”
